Natural ways to cope with anxiety

HOLLA!!!!
I'm so excited it's another month (happy new month!), which means I can smell my birthday *Yay!*. In the spirit of this excitement, I discovered something for myself, and I decided to share! Trust your girl to always share.

For one who likes to be certain, it's quite difficult not to be anxious. Someone who likes to plan, and by all means desire certainty can never mistake "fear" in her stomach for "butterflies". This is me now!

Recently, if anxiety could be measured then mine would have gotten way past normal, series of event keeps giving birth to new ones, my head kept spinning until I pressed PAUSE!  I had to search through what actually works for me and I came up with eight natural ways that I'm going to share in a couple of minutes.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety in actual sense,  is an unpleasant state of mental uneasiness, nervousness, apprehension, and concern for uncertain events. When it becomes consistent with its cohorts (panic attacks) then its a disorder.
Anxiety at a certain level is normal, like you being anxious before an exam. But the kind that affects your emotional well being needs to be curtailed, and the fun part is, there are natural healthy ways to do that.

Natural ways to cope with anxiety ? Here you go:

1. Breathe - Funny right? But it works. Pausing your thoughts to draw deep breaths (inhaling-n-exhaling) calms the heart from racing, which will in turn save you from a panic attack.

2. Distract your thoughts - Now that you are breathing, the next thing to do is distract your thoughts. sometimes it's not easy when you're worried, but it's worth it. Seeing a movie, or listening to songs can be helpful (in fact, really helpful). Pop those earplugs and listen to your favourite song (I advice you get a new playlist for this, because your mind has gotten acquainted with your old one! For real). Personally, I listen to "alright, ok" by J Moss.

3. Take a walk - Sightseeing is another fun and natural way to manage anxiety. Most of the time, I walk through the same path always, so there's nothing new to see you would say, "yeah I know!" How it actually works, is you hoping to see something new and paying attention to details (since you've walked this path a thousand times already, it'll be easy to notice something new.) could be a butterfly, a new paint, or even a new neighbour! *wink*

4. Find company - Remember that new neighbour you met during sightseeing, how about you go visit them? Yeah! Although anybody can keep you company, family inclusive, you still need a buddy to hang with. Just be open to having a random conversation with whoever is available. If there's none, go find some!

5. Take a long bath, or go swimming - Water is more than just a liquid to quench your thirst, it's therapeutic. Take long baths, or go swimming. This is a good way to release negative energy from your body. Water works great for your heart because it has a way of calming those palpitations real fast. Try it.

6. Reflect on a related life quote -  Truth is, anxiety comes when it seem like we no longer have things in control, could be relationships, career, academics, and other sneaky-sneaky important stuff. Remember I talked about my favourite Life quotes last time, now you've got an opportunity to use some of yours or mine, and reflect on it.

7. Find out what the Bible has to say - Funny truth is, the Bible has a verse for EVERYTHING. Get inspired by related bible verses. Check out a popular one in Philippians 4:6. Now you know anxiety does not in anyway affect future results, so whether good or bad, it's His will.

8. Tell God, and trust him - You don't have to be all religious and spiritual about it. You know how you tell your earthly parents random stuff? Add a little bit of reverence to that, and whisper your heart desires to God.

Lastly, TRUST HIM! Hard thing to do, but do it anyway.

Not all eight (8) of them can be applied on the go of course, find what works for you, and most importantly, let things be!

Stay woke!
