Reflection (noun): serious thought or consideration
To propely reflect, you need to change position, for instance, when you stare at the mirror, you no longer see your inward self. This time you see YOU. I've always been baffled at how God created you to only be fully aware of your inward counterpart (emotions, feelings, intelligence, pain, and every other thing that pertains to that realm. The real YOU) and not the outside, apart from the places your eyes can see, you're not really aware. Thank God for mirrors.
We change position so we can see ourselves from a different perspective. From not being the doer, but the evaluator. Now you can say we reflect to evaluate our lives. This time, not to measure growth by standards our fellow inhabitants of this earth have set, then go ahead to dish out accolades to ourselves accordingly based on qualifying performance.
I saw a post on Instagram about someone who tried to commit suicide, and when I went further to snoop through the comments, I found an intriguing statement;
"You become depressed when you forget who you are". I totally agree.
But this is my problem, DO WE KNOW WHO WE TRULY ARE? humans are made for more and at some point in our lives, you begin to unconsciously search for a deeper meaning to life. You think that, which is valid. However, it is your soul seeking for a connection. I first felt this way when I clocked 25. I was a Christian, did all the religious stuff (you know the ones). Still, I was restless and anxious everyday.
I clocked 26, and it got worse. I had suicidal thoughts occasionally and was constantly afraid. This time, I concluded that writing my thoughts on paper would help since I didn't have anyone to share them with (listening ears were available, but understanding was not).
During this struggle, I changed my church. And during every service, they found a way to sneak James 1:21-23 and Romans 12:2 into every sermon so it got stuck in my head. Long story to the bare minimum, I found myself in Christ again and I held strongly to all His promises, trusting EVERY word.
Back to reflections, in the bible, James talked about how this helps you in his opening chapter. Although, the mirror he referred to is God's word and standard, which is perfect.
Using these to evaluate your daily actions, you begin to see the imperfections that need adjustment.
You live daily in the consciousness of who you are.
Most times our thoughts get the best of us, we get so lost in ourselves fulfilling only SELF.
How often do you ask yourself; "WHO ARE YOU?" and "WHOSE ARE YOU?"
These are self evaluating questions. How morally just are your values? Have you been living up to standards?
Ask yourself these, and answer them. Review your answer.
Being anchored in Christ doesn't exempt you from the rubbish life throws at you, however, it gives you a strong base of assurance of who you are. Let the wind come, let the wave beat at your boat, let the earth crumble underneath your feet, let the rain pour hard on you... YOU WILL BE FINE.

How reflecting helps you?
- For self evaluation. Doing this constantly, keeps us in check. Like a thorough auditing of an account to fish out loopholes, but this time, we're looking for bad behaviours that didn't sync with who we are.
- For redirection. Everyone who looks at the mirror and sees something off, it's just reflex to quickly adjust it. Having been exposed to your shortcomings especially a deformation of character, it is only right to turn around and DO BETTER, NO EXCUSES.

God is in the midst of *insert name*, secure and never shaken. At daybreak His help will be seen with the appearing of the dawn.
Psalms 46:5
You go dey alright!
You go dey alright!
