Setting Realistic Goals (on personal development)

Welcome everyone! I’m guessing we all are happy it's month end already because I am, even if I’m not getting paid (yet).

Today’s post is to share my very recent realization about goal setting and how you can manage to set important and realistic goals! I pray you’re able to grasp this message and also apply lessons learnt.

On a fine day, I was going about random activities when I got a very clear understanding of how one should go about goals and achievements. This is some serious realization because I haven’t been the type of person that writes a list and plan strategically. The young me had some personal goals to achieve at a certain time in my life, but I never really went further to put two on two like most people claim they do. I take life these days as it comes because until now, my plans NEVER go as planned. Most of you can relate with this.

I usually get a portion of scripture that speaks in a high volume to me at difficult times and the most recent is: stand STILL and know that He is God! - Psalms 46:10 plainly put.

A decent number of times, the bible had reiterated that the plans of man and that of God are two parallel lines (Provb 19: 21, 16:9, 20:24, and more), only on the exception of those who have submitted to living in His plan. This can be very difficult to comprehend especially when people set goals and they visibly accelerate in the course. But here’s the truth: people would break moral codes, do the unimaginable to get or prove the point of being successful, you probably wouldn’t because you have some level of decency,or for a believer - the fear of God. This isn’t cliche, we all already know this. The just route is the longest route, and our unit for speed is patience.

So how do we go about setting goals?

Set goals for GROWTH. These are deliberate actions for personal growth, it could cut across character, communication, strengths and weaknesses. These are the ones we should beat ourselves up for not achieving or scaling progressively. I used to have anger issues, was timid, and I couldn’t speak fluent English (funny one). There are more, but these are the ones I had to improve on as quickly as I could because of where life had placed me. I found out that no matter how hard I tried to hide, life had a way of putting me in the middle of an expectant crowd literally, so you get my point. Let your drive be for growth and not for material achievements, because the blow hits different on our expectations for these things.

So while you are standing sill, you are growing. You are acquiring value and giving it out too. The most important things in life aren’t material.

Work on developing a better YOU with good presets. Strive to becoming a good representation of your beliefs.

"So, dear brothers and sisters, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things, you will not stumble." - 1Peter 1:10

Faith, virtue, knowledge, self control, patience, godliness, kindness, and love. These are the firm pillars for personal growth because it cuts across everything. You’d find it detailed in verse 8 of the above scripture.

If you are like me who gave up on planning fantastic life goals, I’ve got a message for you in Heb 2:18 and 6:7 (read with the NLT translation). I look forward to sharing in your joy.

Shalom.
