Honestly, I’m beginning to understand why Apostle Paul kept reiterating that we need the Holy Spirit’s help to become better humans. Its been proven again and again that without His counsel and discernment, our flesh will constantly lead us in foolishness.
Since the Holy Spirit isn't as physical as a bouncer, or a compass, it is very easy to slip, and overly religious people would still think they are on track. This post is for me first, then you.
I was raised in Assemblies of God, call them the unrefined penticostals. Here, messages were more about your neighbour than it should be for you. Growing up, when people backslide or rebel against God and the church community, the rest of us in would scorn, judge, and conclude that they weren't strong believers in the first place.
When it was time to change because we had seen all that there is, we moved to a more refined church. The word is preached as it is here, but we all often wonder why the seats are empty. Christianity is more that a well scripted sermon and frequent nods, how is your heart?
I saw a movie once where someone said; the cross represents our relationship with God first (vertical part), and then with our neighbors next (horizontal part). The vertical part is the longest because our work and walk is more of the spirit (the heart). I totally agree because Jesus said they who worship Him must do in spirit and in truth. What is this truth? That Jesus died, resurrected, and He’ll be back for His bride (they who have successfully worshiped), that in our flesh we cannot produce a righteousness that pleases God, that our heart in the flesh is full of wickedness (James 1:20, Jer 17:9).
At this point, I can only try to imagine why people turn their backs on the church. While the church was suppose to be us sharing burdens, thoughts, questions, Gods word and bread, there's been a lot of restructuring to that. I still try to imagine how the church was before and after the death of the couple who cheated and lied to Peter in Acts 5:1-11
I think the essence of this rant is to remind those in the faith, that your heart with which you fellowship with God should be protected at all cost Provb. 4:23. Jesus fills you first before you go on to fill others. Sadly, church as a community have been perverted with lies and deceit (1Tim 3:5-6, Matt 7:15-16), so you need to be upright.
I'm big on sharing life experiences, while I might not give too much details, I'm bound by purpose to let you in on my journey just so you can learn a thing or two.
I pray you have the courage to always yield yourself to be picked up by the Holy Spirit when you are cast down. Until I have another rant,
Shalom✊🏽
